DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 19, 2015) – With the western hemisphere’s most prestigious sports car race in their backyard, Daytona Beach-based VisitFlorida.com Racing is primed for victory in the 53rd-annual Rolex 24 at Daytona.
When team owner Troy Flis was asked last week in an interview if he felt he had a home-field advantage in the prestigious Rolex 24, Flis responded, “It is nice to sleep in your own bed.” Knowing the great challenges that await his Chevrolet Corvette DP team in the grueling twice-around-the-clock endurance competition, Flis knows there is no home field advantage, but he is confident in the preparation his team has made leading into the race.
“Our drivers and crew members have put in unbelievable dedication the last three months,” said Flis. “From the end of Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, all the way through the Roar this past week, our guys have been amazing. We’ve had some small setbacks, but they’ve met the challenges head on and have prevailed stronger each time.”
While the team rebranded in the offseason in recognition of VisitFlorida.com’s continued partnership with the team, consistency and familiarity are a few keys that have the team primed for its best year yet in 2015.
Returning to the team this year are full-time drivers Richard Westbrook and Michael Valiante, while Mike Rockenfeller will again compete in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and the season finale Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta with the team.
With all three of his drivers and the vast majority of the team returning from 2014, Flis is optimistic of what the 2015 IMSA Tudor United SportsCar Championship (TUSC) will have in store for his team.
“I feel like we are in the best position we have ever been in,” said Flis. “Coming in with the same drivers and most of the same crew for another season, we feel as prepared as ever to challenge for the win in the Rolex 24 and compete for the championship all season.”
VisitFlorida.com Racing finished the 2014 season in third place in the TUSC team and driver standings and fifth in the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup, finishes Flis aims to improve this season.
“We had a good year last year but we certainly want to have an even better year in 2015 for VisitFlorida.com, Chevrolet and all our great partners,” said Flis. “We all know that a good season starts with a great showing in the Rolex 24 and there is no better way to start the year than a win in that race.”
