MONTEREY, Cali. (May 2, 2015) – Michael Valiante continued the Visit Florida Racing trend of third in qualifying for the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with a lap-time of 1:19.448. The third place starting position is a continuation of the team’s trend of three thus far in 2015.
The No. 90 VISITFLORIDA.COM Chevrolet Corvette DP has finished third in the first three events of the 2015 IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. The team remains the lone entry in the prototype class to be on the podium in every event this season, and currently sit second in the TUDOR Championship, trailing by only three points.
“Lucky number three again,” said driver Michael Valiante. “We’re in a good position starting third. Obviously we want to fight for the pole, but I think we have a great racecar. We have to get a clean start and get the car in a good position for Richard to fight for the win.”
While the team has finished third in each of the first three races of 2015, the starting position marks their best of the season giving added optimism for Sunday afternoons race.
“Our guys did a great job during our three days of testing,” said team owner Troy Flis. “Everyone has done a great job all season, but we learned some things testing after Long Beach that we think will push us over the three-threshold and onto the top step of the podium before long.”
Sunday’s Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix gets underway at 1:05 p.m. PT with live coverage on Fox Sports 1. Fans can enhance their viewing experience by downloading the new IMSA Mobile app, available on Android and iOS.
