Spirit of Daytona Announces Corvette DP

DAYTONA BEACH, FL:  When Spirit of Daytona team owner/manager, Troy Flis, first heard that Chevrolet was introducing a new Corvette Daytona Prototype for Grand-Am Rolex series racing in 2012 he knew that he wanted to be a part of it. After an incredible winning streak with Corvettes in the GT ranks, Flis has high hopes of returning to Victory Lane with the iconic brand. “When I learned that Chevrolet and Pratt & Miller Engineering were 100% behind the program I knew that it be a major addition to the Grand-Am Rolex Series and something that I was immediately interested in”, Flis said.

The 2012 Corvette DP looks completely different than the DPs that raced in 2011. “Pratt & Miller has designed an awesome looking racecar”, Flis said. “Everyone will immediately recognize it as a Corvette which is different than the original DPs and that is a huge advantage for Chevrolet”.

The Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP will be the only Corvette DP on track during this weekend’s Grand-Am Rolex Test at Daytona International Speedway. “Our plans for this test are simple, we want to turn as many laps as possible getting as much data as possible”, Flis said. “Pratt & Miller along with our engineers will process all the data from this test and we should have a pretty good understanding of the car when we come back to Daytona for the December test”.

The Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP will turn its first laps on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway on November 16-17, 2011 during the first official test of the Grand-Am Rolex Series in preparation for the 50th anniversary of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona which will be held January 27-29, 2012.
